First time reader here. I'm on page 280 of the first book. Uh you should know that there are tons of characters. The author knows this and reminds readers accordingly who everyone is. So don't get tripped up. Just read on. But pay attention to events and the "main players". It's a great read so far. 8. Reading Order 2. The Hedge Knight A Game of Thrones A Clash of Kings A Storm of Swords The Sworn Sword The World of Ice and Fire: "Ancient History" to "The Glorious Reign"* A Feast for Crows The Mystery Knight A Dance with Dragons * By all means read TWOIAF parallel with the other books, or skip it if you don't want to read it. It makes much more sense to watch GOT first. I think the nice thing about watching GoT first is that watching HotD you recognize names and can connect the shows this way. Even throw away lines have presence. You don't need to have seen GoT first, but GoT will be ruined if you watch HotD first. Game of Thrones always had a really big issue, its too complex and too big of a story to be easily made into a tv series. A few years ago I created a combined reading order for A Feast for Crows and A Dance with Dragons that became known as the Boiled Leather Reading Order. For organizing/participating in the focus group, you would get a $30 electronic gift card (e.g., Amazon, REI, Target, Starbucks, etc.). All other participants (your friends that you invite to participate) will each get a $20 electronic gift card.
